York University undergraduates · Keele and Glendon

York GPA calculator for Ontario applicants.

York reports a grade point average out of 9.00, sessional and cumulative, and its own calendar says the percentages printed beside each letter are guidelines rather than the grade. This page runs on York's ten-grade table, so a syllabus percentage lands on the letter and the point York would record, with that caveat said out loud.

How York calculates GPA

The rules, straight from York University 2025-2026 Undergraduate Academic Calendar · Grades and Grading Schemes.

  • York's letter table: A+ = 9 (90-100), A = 8 (80-89), B+ = 7 (75-79), B = 6 (70-74), C+ = 5 (65-69), C = 4 (60-64), D+ = 3 (55-59), D = 2 (50-54), E = 1 (40-49), F = 0 (0-39). There is no A-, B-, C- or D-. The A starts at 80, where most Ontario schools start an A-, and the B+ at 75.
  • The percentages are guidelines. York's calendar states that they "are not part of the official grading scheme" and that "the letter-grade system is the fundamental system of assessment". A York instructor can assign a B with no percentage behind it. Treat the percentage you type here as your own estimate of where a letter falls, not as a York number.
  • Two averages are calculated and reported to students, sessional and cumulative, and both are credit-weighted. Only courses taken at York count.
  • Repeats: a passed or failed course can be repeated twice, to a maximum of three attempts, and only the most recent attempt counts toward credit totals and grade point averages. Earlier attempts stay on the transcript as No Credit Retained. A lower second attempt replaces a higher first one.
  • Failed courses count. E carries one point and F carries zero, and both sit in the average with their credits in the denominator. A York failure is not automatically a zero.
  • Standing is set by faculty, not centrally. Faculty of Science: 6.00 and above may continue in Honours, 5.00 to 5.99 may continue except where a program requires more, 4.00 to 4.99 proceed only in an Ordinary program or on warning, and below 2.50 with 24 credits is Required to Withdraw. A pass is a D or better. Check your own faculty's Warnings and Sanctions page.
  • Honours are named differently in each faculty: Summa, Magna and Cum Laude at 8.00, 7.80 and 7.50 in AMPD, LA&PS and Health; First Class Standing at 7.50 in Lassonde and Science; With Distinction at 7.50 in Schulich's BBA. Some require the threshold both overall and in the major.
  • For OMSAS, OLSAS and ORPAS, York is on OUAC Scale 9, the only column in the OUAC table that produces a 3.80. A York A converts to 3.80 whatever the percentage behind it. This page converts the letter, as the OUAC does, rather than the percentage.

This is an estimate. York's Registrar produces your official sessional and cumulative GPA on your grade report and transcript · this is your own working number.

The table and repeat rule come from York's 2025-2026 calendar and its Course Repeat page, linked below. Standing and honours thresholds vary by faculty and the ones quoted here are the Faculty of Science's and the Registrar's honours page; your faculty's own calendar section governs. The credit value of a standard course was not confirmed from an official page and is not assumed here. Osgoode Hall Law School and Schulich graduate programs use their own rules and are not covered.
