University of Ottawa undergraduates · Ottawa
uOttawa GPA calculator for Ontario applicants.
uOttawa reports a cumulative grade point average out of 10.00, and a term GPA beside it. An 8.42 here is a strong record and means nothing at any other school in Ontario. This page runs on uOttawa's eleven-letter table, so a syllabus percentage lands on the letter and the numeric value the Registrar would record.

How uOttawa calculates GPA
The rules, straight from University of Ottawa · Academic Regulation A-3, Grading System (effective 1 May 2024).
- uOttawa's official grading system (Regulation A-3.1): A+ = 10 (90-100), A = 9 (85-89), A- = 8 (80-84), B+ = 7 (75-79), B = 6 (70-74), C+ = 5 (65-69), C = 4 (60-64), D+ = 3 (55-59), D = 2 (50-54), E = 1 (40-49), F = 0 (0-39). ABS and EIN also carry 0. There is no B- and no C-.
- Grade points for a course are its units multiplied by the numeric value of the letter. The CGPA is the sum of grade points divided by the sum of all units taken, passed or not, rounded to two decimals. A term GPA (TGPA) is the same over one term.
- Only courses completed at uOttawa, Saint Paul University, the Dominican University College and Carleton University count. The CGPA resets to zero on admission to a second bachelor's or a professional program.
- Repeats: any course may be attempted up to three times, and only the last grade counts in the CGPA. A failing grade can replace a passing one. Separately, a student may apply once for an academic reset covering 9 to 30 of their first 30 units, after which those grades stay on the transcript but leave every average.
- Failed courses count. E carries one point, F zero, and ABS and EIN are treated as F. Courses graded CR, NC, P, S or NS are outside the average, which means an NS is a failure that does not lower your CGPA.
- Good standing needs a CGPA of 4.0 in a bachelor's program, 5.0 in an honours bachelor's, 3.5 in an undergraduate certificate. Probation is not assessed until 24 units are taken; mandatory withdrawal from the faculty follows a CGPA below 3.0 after 24 units.
- Dean's Honour List each term: a TGPA of 8.5 or higher (7.5 in law), no failures, at least 9 units with alphanumeric grades. At graduation, Summa Cum Laude is 9.00 to 10, Magna Cum Laude 8.00 to 8.99, Cum Laude 7.00 to 7.99 in most faculties; Law and Education set their own bands.
- The pass mark is not one number. It is D by default, C for Education, Undergraduate Medical Education and Pharmacy, and C+ for Nursing and some Nutrition courses. In a course with students at more than one level, each student's own level decides.
- For OMSAS, OLSAS and ORPAS, uOttawa is on OUAC Scale 7, the alpha column. A B+ converts to 3.30 and a C to 2.00; run the same percentages through the percentage column and you get 3.00 and 1.70. This page converts the letter, as the OUAC does.
This is an estimate. uOttawa's Registrar produces your official TGPA and CGPA on your transcript · this is your own working number.
The table, the CGPA formula and the repeat and reset rules come from Regulations A-3, B-4 and B-6, linked below. A student who has used an academic reset has a CGPA that cannot be rebuilt from their course grades alone, and this tool does not model it. The Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Education, the PharmD program and Undergraduate Medical Education are excluded from the repeat and standing regulations quoted here. The 3-unit value of a standard course is implied throughout the regulations rather than stated, and is not assumed.
