How Queen's calculates GPA

The rules, straight from Queen's University Registrar · Official GPA Scale.

  • Queen's grading scale (effective May 1, 2011): A+ = 4.30 (90-100%), A = 4.00 (85-89.9%), A- = 3.70 (80-84.9%), B+ = 3.30 (77-79.9%), B = 3.00 (73-76.9%), B- = 2.70 (70-72.9%), C+ = 2.30 (67-69.9%), C = 2.00 (63-66.9%), C- = 1.70 (60-62.9%), D+ = 1.30 (57-59.9%), D = 1.00 (53-56.9%), D- = 0.70 (50-52.9%), F = 0.00 (below 50%).
  • The scale applies across Arts and Science, Smith School of Business, Smith Engineering, School of Graduate Studies, and Health Sciences.
  • Since January 7, 2014, the cumulative Grade Point Average no longer appears on the Queen's official transcript · your transcript lists the courses and their letter grades. Any cumulative you compute here is a self-service estimate for your own tracking.
  • Sessional GPA on your unofficial record is a credit-weighted average of that term's course grade points. Half-credit courses count half a full-credit course.
  • The Queen's Registrar produces your official record. This tool converts percentage inputs against the published scale · treat the cumulative estimate as your own working number, not an official document.
