How ORPAS calculates GPA

The rules, straight from OUAC ORPAS Instruction Booklet.

  • ORPAS uses a 4.00 scale, not 4.3. Older references showing 4.3 are out of date.
  • Each individual course grade is converted via the OUAC Undergraduate Grade Conversion Table (Trent = Scale 3), then credit-weighted. Never average percentages and convert the total.
  • ORPAS produces both a cumulative and a sub-GPA (typically your last 20 half-credits or 10 full-credits). Programs may weight sub-GPA more heavily than cumulative.
  • Prerequisite courses and certain repeats have program-specific rules ORPAS applies during processing · this tool does not model them.
  • ORPAS makes the official calculation on your submitted transcript. Treat this tool as a directional check, not a submitted number.

This is an estimate. ORPAS does the official calculation on your application.

The math here mirrors the OUAC Undergraduate Grade Conversion Table (Trent = Scale 3). Each application service applies its own inclusion rules · repeat courses, course loads, program-specific exclusions · which this tool does not model. Always cross-check against your target program's admissions page and the current application cycle's booklet.
